About All Things Email
Considering how important email is for the Internet and the people who us it, there is not much information out there, especially when compared to other Internet applications like the World Wide Web. And the information that is available is spread over many web sites and mailing list archives, hard to find, and incomplete.
All Things Email intends to be an information hub, collecting information and resources about email. It contains a reference database, a link list, and a wiki. And it is open to participation by anyone on the net.
A word on spam
Spam and the activities to fight it are surely the most talked-about aspect of email today. But how to fight spam is not the only thing email administrators have to know. There are many other aspects of email systems where little information is available. So this web site will help you find information about spam, but also about those many other things.
The technology behind this site
All Things Emails brings together many different technologies:
The reference area is build around a collection of XML files containing lists of email articles, books, headers, papers, etc. Currently most of these XML files are edited manually, but some are created automatically from other data on the web like the list of RFCs available from the RFC editor.
Those XML files are munged with the help of XSLT stylesheets, Shell scripts, Perl code and the Perl Template Toolkit to create the web pages you see.
Currently the raw XML data is not available, but once the data formats have settled, at least part of this data will also be available for download.
